Protection gaps
Many defenders face threats, violence, exclusion, and limited access to safeguarding systems. We help strengthen community protection, care, and rapid response.
Women • Girls • Human Rights
Coalition for Grassroots Human Rights Defenders – Kenya (CGHRD-Kenya) is a grassroots
feminist,women/human rights defenders social movement bringing together Grassroots
Human Rights Defenders (GHRDs), feminists, women human rights defenders, SRHR advocates,
climate justice activists, community organizers, and social justice movements.
Rooted in communities and led by people who experience injustice firsthand,
CGHRD-Kenya was built from a simple but powerful belief:
Communities are not victims of injustice. Communities are the solution.
We organize, educate, protect, connect, and build collective power so that grassroots
communities can shape their own futures and advance human rights, gender justice,
democracy, and social transformation.
Today, we work across Kenya while remaining deeply grounded in rural communities, informal
settlements, and historically marginalized spaces.
Grassroots women human rights defenders and feminists are often excluded from protection systems, resources, and policy spaces despite carrying some of the heaviest burdens in communities.
Many defenders face threats, violence, exclusion, and limited access to safeguarding systems. We help strengthen community protection, care, and rapid response.
We mobilize women, feminists, defenders, and organizers into solidarity networks that can learn, respond, advocate, and transform together.
We invest in long-term feminist organizing, political education, healing justice, community resilience, and grassroots infrastructure.
CGHRD-Kenya emerged from grassroots feminist organizing and community realities, building solidarity where women and defenders faced threats, exclusion, inequality, and limited access to justice.
A Kenya governed by human rights, feminist values, collective care, equality, and social justice.
To mobilize grassroots human rights defenders, feminists, and community organizers to push for reforms that advance justice, dignity, feminist leadership, and human rights.
Our work is organized around grassroots power, feminist education, protection, advocacy, and sustainable movement infrastructure.
